A Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to Birdsedge First School. We are delighted that you have taken the time to have a look at our website and to find out about our school.

Birdsedge is a small, rural school on the outskirts of Huddersfield. The school is set in a beautiful location, surrounded by the rolling hills and woodland scenery of the Upper Dearne Valley. We are located in the village of Birdsedge and we are an active part of the local community, with strong links with local Church and other Community groups.

Birdsedge First really is a very special place for children to come and learn and grow together. Our caring, nurturing, child centred ethos is what makes us special and sets us apart from other schools. With only 2 classes we really do know every child exceptionally well and can cater to each child's very individual needs. We have grown our own inhouse Resource Provision so we can better offer support for those children who may have an additional need or a barrier to learning and achieving. Birdsedge first school has a real family feel and an atmosphere which gives children the confidence to flourish and shine.

The provision for our younger children is exceptional; a very spacious classroom with a wonderful outdoor learning area. Each of our other 2 classrooms are large and airy with reading areas and access to ICT. We are also lucky enough to have an additional library area. Our school is set in wonderful grounds with access to a large games field, play ground and woodland that has been developed into a well equipped Forest School provision.

For our working parents we also have an onsite Breakfast and After School club run by dedicated staff who offer flexible care tailored to your needs every day of the week.

Visitors to our school are always welcome- come and have a look around and find out more about Birdsedge First School: the small school , with the big heart.

As of 1st December 2016, we joined Shelley First School, Kirkburton and Scissett Middle schools to form the MAST Academy and we enjoy working with our partners for the benefit of our school communities.
