Ofsted Findings

The View of Ofsted

OfSted's interim findings in 2010 can be found here. Our School was last visited by Ofsted in 2006, and was graded Outstanding in every category which was inspected. You can read the full report by clicking here or read the DFE school performance tables website here.

Here are some quotes from their report:

"This is an outstanding school which provides exceptionally good value for money. It
meets all the needs of its pupils and serves the community extremely well. The pupils
achieve particularly well right from the start in the Foundation Stage where there is
especially good provision. Children enter school with very wide ranging but broadly
average attainments. They all make exceptionally good progress both in personal and
academic skills."

"Although this is a small school it is outward looking. There are
excellent links with neighbouring schools"

"Since the last inspection, improvement has been excellent and there is good capacity
to improve further. The school has improved the provision and the accommodation
for the Foundation Stage and the provision in ICT. Standards have risen in ICT and
examples of work seen were above average."

"Teachers have expert subject knowledge and high expectations of pupils. Their
teamwork is impressive in planning interesting topics and lessons that consistently
challenge all pupils."

"The staff care for all the pupils exceptionally well, developing both their academic and
personal and social skills. Parents recognise that, as one of them commented, 'All our
children's needs are catered for at Birdsedge.'"

The Views of Parents

The views of parents are very important at Birdsedge, and we always endevour to be approachable, open and ready to listen. We have always conducted our own regular surveys of parental views, and will continue to do so. We would also very much like parents to express their views on the OfSted 'Parent View' website, which has recently been launched. An online questionnaire that allows parents and carers to give their views on their child’s school at any time of the year.

The questionnaire covers a range of topics, including quality of teaching, bullying, behaviour and levels of homework, allowing parents to give a view about their child’s school on each issue, with a final question as to whether or not they would recommend the school to other parents.

Please be aware that it is important to make a distinction between the purpose of the ‘Parent View’ website and the school’s complaint procedure.

Any concerns that parents may have about aspects of school life still need to be raised either with the class teacher or the Headteacher. The ‘Parent View’ website is not a means of resolving such issues.
