Meet the Staff

Mr Simmons

Mr Simmons Headteacher joined the school as headteacher in January 2014. He feels that he has the best job in the world working with all stakeholders. He has taught for the last sixteen years in a variety of different settings in Batley, Hade Edge, and Dewsbury. This has provided him with a wealth of experience of working with different children, teachers, governors, and communities. In his spare time he likes to anything to do with cars, spending time in his garden, swimming, and spending time with his family. His favourite food is lasagne, ever since making it at Junior School in the early 80's.

Mr Burdon

Mr Burdon Senior Teacher / Class 2 has been teaching for over 15 years. He has a love of the outdoors as well as technology. He has taught in three previous schools, including in two other local authorities. The thing he likes most about teaching is the creativity of the job, and that working with such lovely children means that every day is different. When he isn't working he loves to explore the outdoors with his family.

Mr Midgley Class 1 Teacher

Ms Spark

Ms Spark Class 3 Teacher has worked in education for 30 years across all age groups and in several local authorities. Her passion is literacy, particularly writing and she has co-ordinated literacy in several larger primary schools as well as being a year tutor in secondary school. She loves the variety of her job as each day is different. She thinks she has the best job in the world and wouldn't swap it for any other. When not at school she is busy looking after her four children, reading, going to the cinema and being a mum/taxi driver/nutritionlist of two very talented tennis players who travel around the country playing tournaments.

Mrs Fuller(1)

Mrs Fuller Class 3 Teacher has just joined Birdsedge school in November 2015. Before coming to Birdsedge she worked at 2 schools in Calderdale teaching from Year 1 to Year 4.  Mrs Fuller loves teaching the creative subject such as Art and DT, especially Cooking as she feels it is a real life skill that every child should learn. Outside of school Mrs Fuller’s favourite hobbies are taking her daughter swimming, meeting up with friends to drink tea and eat cake and baking (followed by eating the cake!)
